GREENWOOD, S.C. | Terry Leonard Jr. scored 16 points to lead Lander University to an 88-43 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory Wednesday (Feb. 25) evening at Finis Horne Arena.
The Bearcats improved to 21-5 overall and to 16-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats slipped to 16-11 and 11-8. GCSU concludes the regular season Saturday (Feb. 28) when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 3:30 p.m. league affair against Flagler College.
Julian Walker's jumped with 13:49 remaining in the first half pulled the Bobcats to within three points at 12-9, but Lander took control of the game with a 37-9 run to end the period to take a 49-18 lead at the intermission.
C.J. Jones and
James Nichols III led the Bobcats with six points apiece. Nichols has now scored 1,000 points in his collegiate career.
Conyer Smith led GCSU with seven rebounds, while
Tony Carpio posted six more.
