Newberry defeats GCSU 5-2

NEWBERRY, S.C. | Newberry College won four of the six singles matches as the Wolves downed Georgia College & State University 5-2 in a non-conference women's tennis match Wednesday (Feb. 25) afternoon at the Oakland Tennis Center.

The Wolves improved to 6-1, while the Bobcats fell to 5-2. GCSU hosts Texas A&M University - Kingsville in a 1 p.m. match Saturday (Feb. 28) at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts.

Rachel Black and Victoria Conde Vendrell teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 6-2, but the Wolves won the doubles point as they recorded victories at No. 2 and No. 3.

Newberry extended its lead to 2-0 with a win at No. 6 singles, before GCSU tied the match at 2 as Black won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 and Conde Vendrell won her match at No. 2 by scores of 6-2, 7-6 (6). The Wolves won the final three matches - two of them in three sets - to pick up the win.
