Bobcats drop both games Sunday to close out the weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Georgia College & State University softball team concluded their weekend dropping both games Sunday (Feb. 8) afternoon at the Eagle Classic in Daytona Beach.

The Bobcats fell to West Alabama 1-0 in game one before dropping a 7-2 decision against host Embry-Riddle (Fla.) in game two.

The Bobcats fell to 1-5 on the season and will return to action Friday (Feb. 13) afternoon to host the University of West Florida for a doubleheader at the Bobcat Softball Field.

In game one, West Alabama scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning. After the run, GCSU struggled to break through offensively.

Reina Checo, Stephanie Condland and Emily Hutcheson each recorded a single for the Bobcats' three hits in the contest. Checo also stole a base and advanced to third in the third inning.

In the circle, Sydney Garrett struck out two batters for the Bobcats in a scoreless sixth inning. Despite strong pitching, GCSU couldn't find the offense needed to tie or win the game.

In game two against Embry-Riddle, the Eagles broke the game open with a six-run third inning, creating separation early.

GCSU finished with six hits, and Maddie Todd and Stephanie Condland each had RBI singles. In the circle, Tiffany Caban closed the game with 3.1 scoreless innings, but the Bobcats were unable to make the comeback.
