MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University extended its winning streak to three as the Bobcats rallied for a 9-6 non-conference baseball victory over Albany State University Tuesday (March 10) evening at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats improved to 9-13, while the Golden Rams slipped to 13-8. GCSU returns to Peach Belt Conference play Friday (March 13) when they open a three-game series against Columbus State University with game one set for 5 p.m. at home.
After surrendering a two-run home run in the first inning, GCSU responded with three runs -Â two of them unearned in the fourth inning.
Cole Huddleston had RBI single to right field and later scored on an error.
Carson Vick added a run-scoring single to right to close out the scoring.
GCSU added a run in the fifth on a
Tanner Patterson single to right. The Golden Rams battled back to tie the game at 4 with two runs in the top of the sixth, but GCSU reclaimed the lead at 5-4 on
Evan Cowan single to left in the bottom half of the inning.
Albany State pushed across two runs in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but the Bobcats took the lead for good with two runs in their half of the inning. A
Ty Petrovich double into the left field corner tied the game at 6 and Petrovich later scored on Huddleston's single.
The Bobcats added two insurance runs in the eighth.
Luke Boone laced an RBI double to center and Patterson drove in the final run on a ground out.
For the third consecutive game, the Bobcats collected 13 hits.
Carson Phillips had three hits, while Cowan, Huddleston and
Blake Bellflower had two each.
Trevor Allan (1-0) earned the win in relief, while
Griffin Davis pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save.
