HARTSVILLE, S.C. | Georgia College & State University was limited to only six singles as they fell to Coker University 9-2 in a non-conference baseball contest Tuesday (March 31) evening at the Tom J. New Baseball Field.
The Bobcats fell to 13-19, while the Cobras improved to 8-25. GCSU looks to bounce back with an upcoming Peach Belt Conference three-game set against Flagler College, with the opener Thursday (April 2) at 6 p.m. in St. Augustine, Florida.
Luke Kimrey got the Cobras offense started, singling in Elijah Jordan and Dimitri Sabino in the bottom of the second, and Matthew Lipcsey singled in Kimrey to provide a 3-0 lead.
Carson Phillips drove in Trevor Allan and Zachary Paulling to make things close in the top of the third at 3-2, but Gavin Johnson and Colton Penner drove in a run each of the following two innings. Penner drove in another run in the sixth, and Gavin Edens and Lipcsey combined to drive in three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Caden Tillman (1-1) gave up four runs and six hits in the loss. Blake Baldwin (1-3) collected his first win of the season, tossing six innings and limiting the Bobcats to just the two runs driven in by Phillips.
Phillips had the only multi-hit performance. Evan Cowan, Luke Boone, Tanner Patterson, and Cole Huddleston each had a hit.
