MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University softball team defeated No. 4 University of North Georgia 3-2 in the Peach Belt Conference opener Friday (Mar. 6) evening at the Bobcat Softball Field in Milledgeville.
The Bobcats improved to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Nighthawks fell to 16-4 and 0-1. The teams close out the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (March 7).
The Nighthawks struck first with a run in the opening inning and added another in the sixth to take a 2–0 lead.
Maddie Todd delivered an RBI double for GCSU, which finished with five hits.
The Bobcats cut the deficit in half in the sixth inning before tying the game in the seventh on an RBI groundout by
Stephanie Condland. Then
Kimber Kent followed with a run-scoring single to bring home the winning run and complete the comeback.
Kent led the Bobcats offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Reina Checo added two hits and scored a run.
Sydney Garrett earned the win in the circle for GCSU, allowing two runs on five hits through seven innings.
