Bobcats takes series against Knights with 8-1 win

COCHRAN, Ga. | Georgia College & State University took its Peach Belt Conference baseball series against Middle Georgia State University with an 8-1 victory in the finale Sunday (March 8) afternoon at Stuckey Field.

The Bobcats improved to 8-13 overall and to 6-6 in the Peach Belt, while the Knights fell 7-16 and 3-9. GCSU will host Albany State University Tuesday (March 10) at 5 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.

GCSU opened up a 2-0 lead in the fourth. The Bobcats took advantage of one of five Middle Georgia errors to score the first run, before Ty Petrovich singled to left to drive in the other run.

The Bobcats added four more runs thanks to Middle Georgia errors in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead. Tanner Patterson stroked a two-run double to left-center to start the rally. Another run scored on a Knight miscue and another run came home on a wild pitch.

Rand Bestermann hit a home run for the second consecutive game as his solo long ball in the eighth to left field expanded the Bobcat advantage to 8-0.

The Bobcats posted 13 hits with Evan Cowan, Luke Boone, Carson Phillips, Patterson and Petrovich had two each. Carson Vick also contributed a double.

Gavyn Seitz (1-1) earned the win, scattering three hits and striking out three in five innings. Reliever Harding Dennis also struck out the side in his inning of work.
