MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University erupted for five runs in the first inning, cruising to a 9-1 run-rule victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in five innings Friday (April 10) evening in the Peach Belt Conference series opener.
GCSU improved to 20-14 overall and to 10-6 in conference play, while the Hurricanes fell to 13-24 and 2-14. The two teams wrap up their three-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (April 11).
The Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, jumping out to a 5-0 lead behind a three-run home run to right field by
Stephanie Condland.
GCSU added to its lead with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to secure the run-rule win. The Bobcats finished with eight total hits and took advantage of two GSW errors.
Emily Hobbs paced the offense with a double and two RBIs, while Condland added two hits and drove in three runs.
Sydney Lancaster also recorded two hits and scored a run, while the Bobcats received contributions throughout the lineup in a balanced offensive effort.
Sydney Garrett (9-8) was efficient in the circle for GCSU, tossing a complete-game while allowing just one run on three hits and striking out three. Garrett didn't walk any batters.
