MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader with Lander University Saturday (April 18) at the Bobcat Softball Field to close out the weekend series.

GCSU held on for a 4-3 win in the opener before falling 12-4 in the nightcap.

Following the doubleheader, GCSU and Lander improved to 25-16 and 27-15, while they both stay even at 13-8 in the PBC. The Bobcats return to action Friday (April 24) at 6 p.m. to begin a conference series with Augusta University.

In game one, GCSU got down by two early, but erased the deficit with a two-run double by Emily Hobbs in the third. The Bobcats took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Maddie Todd and a run-scoring fielder's choice from Addison Black

Tiffany Caban (7-4) pitched a complete game, allowing three runs and striking out seven.

Lander responded in game two with an 18-hit performance highlighted by a seven-run seventh inning.

The Bearcats took control early with a three-run second inning that included a solo home run from Samantha Bumgarner.

GCSU cut the deficit to 5-3 behind an RBI double from Stephanie Condland and a run-scoring triple by Reina Checo, but Lander was able to pull away with multiple run-scoring hits down the stretch to secure the win.
