AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University took one of three games in its Peach Belt Conference softball series against Augusta University Saturday (April 25) at Jaguar Field.
The Bobcats dropped Friday night's opener 3-0, took the the second game 5-1, and fell in the series finale 9-4.
Augusta improved to 23-25 overall and 12-12 in the Peach Belt, while GCSU fell to 26-18 and 14-10. The Bobcats return to action Friday (May 1) evening when they host Middle Georgia State University at 6 p.m. to start the final regular season series for both teams.
In game one, the Bobcats were held to just one hit as Augusta broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh when Victoria Oropeza hit a three-run home run to secure the game for the Jaguars.
Karlie Gutierrez recorded the only hit for GCSU.
Sydney Garrett kept the game close, allowing three runs over 6.2 innings in the loss.
The Bobcats responded Saturday with a dominant performance to even the series

. The Bobcats added runs in each of the next three innings, including an RBI single by Kimber Kent and a hit-by-pitch from Reina Checo with the bases loaded

Tiffany Caban earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing just three hits and one run while walking six.
In the series finale, Georgia College recorded 10 hits but struggled to convert them into enough runs. Augusta took control early with a four-run second inning. The Bobcats got on the board in the second when Kent scored, but the offense stayed quiet until the sixth inning, when
Emily Hobbs singled to score
Halley Nobles.
Reina Checo added a two-run hom erun in the top of the seventh to cut into the deficit, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Annalise Knop took the loss in the circle, allowing four hits and four runs in 1.1 innings.
Sydney Garrett came in as the relief during the second inning, recording two strikeouts and allowing five runs.
