MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University split a three-game Peach Belt Conference softball series at Augusta University Saturday (April 25) at Jaguar Field.
The Bobcats dropped Friday night's opener 3-0, took the the second game 5-1, and fell in the series finale 9-4.
Augusta improved to 23-25 overall and 12-12 in the Peach Belt, while GCSU fell to 26-18 and 14-10. The Bobcats return to action Friday (May 1) evening when they host Middle Georgia State University at 6 p.m. to start the final regular season series for both teams.
In game one, the Bobcats were held to just one hit as Augusta broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh when Victoria Oropeza hit a three-run homerun to secure the game for the Jaguars.
Karlie Gutierrez recorded the only hit for GCSU.
Sydney Garrett kept the game close, allowing three runs over 6.2 innings in the loss.

In the series finale, Georgia College recorded 10 hits but struggled to convert them into enough runs. Augusta took control early with a four-run second inning. The Bobcats got on the board in the second when Kent scored, but the offense stayed quiet until the sixth inning, when

Reina Checo added a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh to cut into the deficit, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Annalise Knop took the loss in the circle, allowing four hits and four runs in 1.1 innings.
Sydney Garrett came in as the relief during the second inning, recording two strikeouts and allowing five runs.
