GCSU sweeps Clark Atlanta at home in midweek doubleheader

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Clark Atlanta University, taking both games by identical 4-1 scores Tuesday (April 7) evening at the Bobcat Softball Field. 

The Bobcats, riding a nine-game win streak, improved to 19-14 while the Panthers fell to 21-16. GCSU returns to action Friday (April 10) evening at 6 p.m. when it hosts Georgia Southwestern State University for the conference series opener.

Tiffany Caban dominated in the opener, tossing a complete-game one-hitter with 12 strikeouts while allowing just one unearned run to improve to 6-4 on the season.

Catcher Karlie Gutierrez led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Stephanie Condland delivered a solo home run in the fourth to put GCSU up 4-1.

Kacie Wiggins added two hits for the Bobcats, who for combined eight hits off Clark Atlanta starter Daria Bush.

In the nightcap, Sydney Garrett matched Caban's effort with a complete-game four-hitter, walking one and striking out six to improve to 8-8. 

GCSU scored in the first on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Lancaster that scored Kimber Kent. The Bobcats added two more in the third on an RBI double by Gutierrez that scored Lancaster, and an RBI single by Halley Nobles that scored Gutierrez.

Kimber Kent drove in pinch runner Emma Sundermeyer with a groundout in the fifth for the Bobcats' final run.
