GCSU opens up season at Bobcat Classic

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University opened up its 2026 volleyball season inside the Centennial Center Friday (Aug. 28) at the Bobcat Classic presented by Dyer Construction.

GCSU dropped both of its matches on the opening day of the event. The Bobcats suffered a 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 loss to the University of West Alabama in the morning before Southern Wesleyan University claimed a 25-10, 25-19, 25-23 decision in the nightcap.

The Bobcats fell to 0-2 and will wrap up play at the Classic Saturday (Aug, 29) with two matches. GCSU will face Carson-Newman University at 2 p.m. before closing out the event at 7 p.m. with a match against Albany State University.

Avery Huyck led the Bobcats with nine kills, while Sierra Piland added eight more. Lexi Baum (13) and Ile Bernis (12) combined for 25 assists. Baum posted nine digs, which four other players recorded four each. Emersyn Mullvain and Mallorie Swartz each had four block assists, while Nya Warren had three total blocks.

Madison Husband led GCSU with nine kills against the Warriors while Huyck claimed eight more. Sadie Parkerson dished out 13 assists, while Baum had 10 more. Liv Diaz accumulated 12 digs, while Huyck and Baum had eight apiece. Parkerson added seven digs.
