SAINT LEO, Fla. | Georgia College & State University earned its second win of the season Saturday (Sept. 12) as the Bobcats split their final two matches at the Triton and Lion Invitational.
GCSU bounced back after dropping the opening set to defeat Franklin Pierce University in four sets. The Bobcats fell 25-22 in the first set before taking the next three 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18. GCSU later fell to tournament host Saint Leo University 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-17 to move to 2-10 on the season.
The Bobcats found their rhythm offensively against Franklin Pierce after the opening set. GCSU hit .368 in the third set behind 16 kills and just two errors. Avery Huyck led the Bobcats with 16 kills, followed by Reece Wright with 12 and Sierra Piland with seven.
Miki Parrott dished out 19 assists, with Milla Smith adding 11 and Sadie Parkerson eight. Smith posted a team-high 25 digs, followed by Lexi Baum with 13 and Huyck with 10. Kendra Leboehi also led GCSU at the net with three blocks.
GCSU continued to show offensive efficiency against Saint Leo, highlighted by a 25-14 second-set victory. The Bobcats hit .469 in the set with 17 kills and only two errors. Huyck led GCSU with 14 kills, Mullvain added 13 and Piland collected 10.
Ile Bernis distributed 21 assists, followed by Parrott with 15. Smith continuously led defensively with 16 digs, while Bernis had 12 and Parrott added 11. Piland led GCSU at the net with four blocks, while Mullvain had three and Molly Fitzpatrick added two.
Hyuck and Mullvain were both named to the All-Tournament team.
GCSU returns to action Tuesday (Sept. 15) with two matches in Pembroke, North Carolina, against Elizabeth City State University at 2 p.m. and host University of North Carolina at Pembroke at 4 p.m.
