Bobcats march past Trojans 2-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University got goals from Mackenzly Cheely and Madelyn Heckathorn while Kassidy Fortin recorded a clean sheet as the Bobcats shut out Anderson (S.C.) University 2-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 16) evening at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

The Bobcats improved to 3-2-0, while the Trojans fell to 4-2-0. GCSU steps back into Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (Sept. 19) at 1 p.m. when they host Flagler College.

GCSU took a 1-0 lead at the 13:38 mark as Mia Palumbo crossed the ball from the right side into Cheely and she hit a blast from 22 yards out that went into the top right corner of the net for the Bobcats. It was Cheely's team-leading third goal of the season, while it was Palumbo's team-leading third assist.

The Bobcats doubled their lead to 2-0 five minutes into the second half when Heckathorn collected a loose ball and knocked in from 24 yards out for her team-leading third goal of the campaign.

GCSU dominated the Trojans in the shot column 20-8, including a 13-2 margin in the first 45 minutes. The Bobcats doubled up Anderson 8-4 in shots on goal and held a 9-3 edge on corner kicks.

Fortin tallied four saves in net for the Bobcats as GCSU recorded its second shutout of 2026 and the first for the senior.
