AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University fell to Augusta University in three sets Saturday (Sept. 19) in Peach Belt Conference action at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jaguars improved to 4-8 overall and to 2-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats slipped to 3-13 and 0-2. The Bobcats return the Centennial Center for their next conference match against the University of South Carolina-Aiken Friday (Sept. 25) at 6 p.m.
The Bobcats dropped the opening set 25-15 before battling Augusta closely in the second. GCSU recorded 11 kills with just three errors in the second set, but the Jaguars held on for a 25-23 victory. Augusta closed out the match with a 25-9 win in the third set.
Sierra Piland led the Bobcats offensively with six kills, followed by Aubrey Cowart and Avery Huyck with four apiece. Sadie Parkerson distributed five assists, while Ile Bernis and Lexi Baum each added four.
Milla Smith collected 12 digs to lead GCSU's defensive effort, with Haley Mendoza adding eight and Huyck four. Nya Warren led the Bobcats at the net with five blocks, followed by Emersyn Mullvain with three and Huyck with two.
