BLUFFTON, S.C. | Tessa Balsman's goal late in the first half was the difference as the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference decision over the University of South Carolina-Beaufort Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon at Fin Land Field.
The Bobcats, who are ranked ninth regionally, improved to 5-2-1 overall and to 3-0-0 in the PBC as they ran their unbeaten streak to five matches, while the Sand Sharks fell to 4-5-0 and 1-3-0. GCSU closes out its road trip Wednesday (Sept. 30) with a 4:30 p.m. match against Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina.
GCSU took the lead at 1-0 on a direct kick with 16:14 remaining in the first half.
Jenni Järventaus took the kick from 23 yards out from the right side and sent it towards the left post where Balsman slotted the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of 2026.

Kassidy Fortin notched her fourth consecutive shutout as she turned away four shots. Fortin has not allowed a goal in the past 401 minutes and 23 seconds, dating back to the second half of the Clayton State University match.
The Bobcats held a 16-12 edge in shots, including a 10-4 margin on goal. USCB held an 11-6 advantage on corner kicks.
