GCSU, Coker battle to 1-1 draw

HARTSVILLE, S.C. | Lillie Sheffield's goal early in the second half earned the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team a hard-fought 1-1  draw with Coker University Wednesday (Sept. 30) afternoon at the Coker Soccer Field.

The Bobcats, who are ranked ninth regionally, extended their unbeaten streak to six matches (4-0-2) and improved to 5-2-2 overall, while the Cobras fell to 3-5-2. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Oct. 6) when they host Middle Georgia State University for a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

Isabella Rychel's fourth goal of the season off an assist from Ella Wilke at the 7:07 mark gave Coker an early 1-0 lead. It also snapped the scoreless streak that Bobcat goalkeeper Kassidy Fortin had going at 408 minutes and 30 seconds. Fortin finished the match with two saves.

The Bobcats tied the match at 1 in the 53rd minute. Savannah Sause played the ball wide to Sheffield, who dribbled to the end line, cut back in and knocked the ball into the back of the net. It was Sheffield's first strike of 2026.

Coker held a 6-3 margin in shots, although the Cobras only held a 3-2 edge on goal. The Cobras also had six corner kicks to the four for the Bobcats.
