Bobcats conclude play at Pickle Invitational

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. | Georgia College & State University closed out play at the Pickle Invitational Saturday (Sept. 5) with a pair of four-set losses. 

GCSU fell to Fayetteville State University 25-20, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 in the opening match before Coker University claimed a 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-19 victory in the later match. The Bobcats finished the weekend 1-3 and fell to 1-7 on the season. 

Sierra Piland led GCSU with 11 kills against Fayetteville State, while Emersyn Mullvain and Avery Huyck combined for 15. Lexi Baum collected 13 assists, while Ile Bernis added 11. Milla Smith and Huyck led the Bobcats with 10 digs apiece. Ella Curbow led GCSU at the net with five blocks. 

Mullvain paced the Bobcats with 10 kills against Coker, while Huyck added nine and Reece Wright eight. Bernis distributed a team high of 20 assists, while Baum added 16. Smith anchored the Bobcats defensively with 21 digs, while Liv Diaz collected 10. Huyck controlled GCSU at the net with six blocks. 

GCSU will bounce back into action Friday (Sept. 11) and Saturday (Sept. 12) at the Triton and Lion Invitational.
