COLUMBUS, Ga. - The calling card of the No. 21
Georgia College & State University soccer team (12-1-4, 5-1-2
PBC) has been its defense, and despite facing No. 4 Columbus State
University (16-3-1, 7-0-1 PBC) the output remained the same, as the
Bobcats picked up their 12th shutout of the season in a 0-0 tie.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett
(Augusta, Ga.) out-did her counterpart, Monica Sanchez,
saving eight shots to Sanchez' three. The shutout was Plunkett's
seventh of the year, a Bobcat single-season record.
The tie wraps up a regular season that has been a
record-breaking one for head coach Juan Pablo
Favero and the Bobcats. The team picked up their first
national ranking in the NSCAA Poll, earned their highest spots in
program history in both region polls (third in the NSCAA and fifth
in the NCAA, respectively), picked up the most Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) wins (5), the best finish in the PBC standings
(third), and the most shutouts in a season (12).
The Bobcats will be the third seed in the PBC Playoffs, the
winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Georgia
College opens up the first round of the conference tournament at
home, Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., hosting No. 6-seed Lander
University (6-8-1, 2-5-1 PBC). The Bobcats beat the Bearcats 1-0 at
home in October, this season's only meeting.
