MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 19 Georgia College & State University women's tennis team (5-5, 4-4 PBC) caged the Bearcats of No. 40 Lander University (8-2, 3-2 PBC) 7-2 today (March 18) at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in doubles action as Marjorie Ceppo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Gabby Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) defeated Anni Pajuenen and Ana Luiza Zaia 8-1. The French duo of Diane Danna and Bertille Lion took down Nicola James and Eliza Adusumilli 8-3.

The freshman twosome of Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Angy Cuellar (Bogota, Colombia) went claw-to-claw with Caitlin Fell and Vuokko Vahatalo and lost 9-7.

Georgia College capitalized in singles action winning five of six.

At the number one singles slot Ceppo beat Pajunen 6-0, 6-4. Ceppo improved to .500 (5-5) on the season in singles play. The senior teamed with Gabby Acuna improved to 5-5 in doubles action too in 2009 play.

Danna smashed Vahatalo 6-1, 6-0 at the number two singles spot. Danna has won three matches in a row and moves to 5-5 in singles action on the year.

Lion defeated Adusumilli in third singles 6-4, 6-0. Lion posts a 5-5 record with back-to-back wins. Lion and Danna improve to 5-5 in doubles action as well.

Senior Gabby Acuna was victorious 6-3, 6-1 over Fell. She marks a team-best 6-4 record in singles action this year.

Cuellar joins the .500 club with her 5-5 record in singles play in the 2009 campaign. Adriana Acuna fell 6-1, 6-1 to Zaia in the sixth slot.

The Bobcats will be on the road for two matches this weekend. Georgia College faces Erskine College Friday, March 20 and then squares off against Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member, Francis Marion University Saturday.
