MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College
soccer team (7-3, 4-0 PBC) won their fifth-straight game beating
Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent Clayton State University (3-7,
1-5 PBC) 4-1. The win streak includes two shutouts, four conference
wins and they have outscored their opponents 15-3 in that
stretch.
GC struck early scoring at the 16:10 mark on a goal by junior
Megan
McAlpin (Newnan, Ga.). McAlpin was assisted by
freshman Brittaney Borror
(Evans, Ga.). The goal was the second on the season by
McAlpin and the fifth assist by Borror, who leads the team with 13
points. The Bobcats are now 16-0-1 in the last three seasons when
the junior McAlpin records a point.
With nearly three minutes before the end of the first half, the
'Cats attacked again when freshman Taylor Yee
(Alpharetta, Ga.) scored her third goal of the season. Yee
is third on the squad with eight points.
Georgia College made it 3-0 when Borror scored her fourth goal
of the season, just seven minutes into the second frame from about
25 yards out. Borror now has goals in the last four games.
The Lakers' Cherie Sayon netted a goal for Clayton State to make
it 3-1 as the ball slipped just out of the outstretched hands of
Mary Rob
Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) and into the top of the
goal.
Freshman Alex Knight
(Loganville, Ga.) recorded her first assist as she
connected with classmate Katie
Taylor (Sharpsburg, Ga.) on a goal from nearly 35
yards out. Taylor is second on the team with 12 points with five
goals and two assists. GC is 5-0 on the season when Taylor records
a point.
Plunkett had four saves compared to Clayton State's Stefania
Cola's 13. The senior Plunkett has a 1.08 GAA, a .827 save
percentage and 43 saves on the season.
Georgia College outshot the Lakers 36-17 as well as 12-5 on
corner kicks.
The Bobcats travel to face PBC foe North Georgia (10-1, 4-0 PBC)
Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m.
