MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.
– The No. 30 Georgia College & State University
women's tennis team (8-9, 4-6 PBC) fell 6-3 Tuesday to No. 12
Clayton State University (12-4, 9-2 PBC) at the Centennial Center
Tennis Facility.
In first doubles
action, Clayton State's Ivana Kommelova and Viktorya
Semyrodenko defeated Diane
Danna (Paris) and Bertille
Lion (Lyon, France) 8-4. The Bobcat French duo fall to
9-8 overall this season and 5-5 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC)
play.
The Lakers also
claimed wins in second and third doubles, as Kayla
Barksdale (Matinez, Ga.) teamed with Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and
Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) joined forces
with Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.),
respectively. Both Bobcat pairs fell 8-1, giving the Lakers a 3-0
lead going into singles action.
Slotted fourth,
Lingner lost 6-0, 6-1 to Marie Cercelletti, while Mosa repeated
that score, falling to Evelin Csizi, giving the Lakers the five
team points necessary for the win. Barksdale was then overpowered
by No. 37-ranked Katie White in the second slot before the
'Cats started picking up wins.
In the sixth singles
position, Acuna downed Jessica Budd 6-1, 6-4, as the Bobcat
sophomore moved to 6-8 this season. At first singles, the No.
48-ranked Danna sought revenge on Semyrodenko, beating the No. 43
ranked player 6-3, 2-6 and 10-4. Lion lost her first set in the
third slot, falling 6-2, then bounced back for a hard-fought 7-5
and 10-8 for the win. Lion owns the team lead in victories at 12-4
overall, with Danna one slot behind at 11-4.
The Bobcats are back
in action Wednesday, April 7 hosting Brenau University at 2
p.m.
