#19 Women's Tennis Loses to #1 Armstrong, 9-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's tennis team (3-3, 1-2 PBC) took on the top team in the nation Tuesday afternoon in the Armstrong Pirates (5-0, 3-0 PBC) and lost 9-0 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

Senior Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) paired with freshman Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) for the first doubles slot. The Bobcat duo faced off against the No. 1 doubles pair in the country, Barbora Krtickova and Aleksandra Filipovski, with the Bobcats losing 8-2.

Sophomore Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and senior May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) were matched against the No. 6 doubles grouping in the nation, with Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa getting the 8-2 win.

Junior Ivana Marevic (Rotweil, Germany) paired with freshman Sarah Murray (Alpharetta, Ga.) as they took on Clara Perez and Natasa Vukovic. Armstrong came away with an 8-0 win.

Marevic, playing in the first singles slot, took on No. 2 ranked Krtickova with the Bobcats losing the match 6-1, 6-1. Johnson faced off against No. 8 Filipovski and lost 6-0, 6-1.

Barksdale faced off against the No. 14 Hacke and stayed close in the first set before losing 6-4, 6-0. The fourth singles slot matched Pridgeon against Clara Perez with Perez coming away with the 6-0, 6-3 win.

Krupp stayed close early against No. 13 Kalodzitsa, but eventually fell 6-4, 6-0. Murray, playing in her first collegiate contest, battled Jessica Gardefjord in the sixth slot to a 6-1, 6-0 loss.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, March 2 when they travel to Alabama to take on the University of Montevallo.
