No. 5-Seed GC Women's Tennis Battles No. 1-Seed Armstrong, Falls 5-0

FLORENCE, S.C. – Less than 24-hours after finishing their six-hour marathon win in the quarterfinals, the No. 5-seed Georgia College women's tennis team (15-9) was back in action at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament. The Bobcats drew the No. 1-seed Armstrong Pirates (22-1) in the semifinals. The Bobcats battled the Pirates throughout the afternoon, but were felled 5-0.

Senior Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and freshman Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) faced off against the No. 3 doubles team in the nation, Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova. Despite scoring numerous points, the Bobcats lost the match 8-1.

Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Sarah Murray (Alpharetta, Ga.) were pitted against Natasa Vukovic and Clara Perez in the No. 3 doubles position. The Bobcat duo battled throughout, but lost 8-2.

Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) were matched against No. 6 Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa. The Bobcats led early but were defeated 8-4 in the end.

The Bobcats entered singles play facing off against five of the top-25 singles players in the nation. No. 23 Kalodzitsa was able to defeat Lingner 6-2, 6-0 and Krupp fell to No. 11 Hacke 6-0, 6-1 to close the match.

The Bobcats will return to the court for the final time in the PBC Tournament tomorrow, April 14 at 8 a.m. when they battle No. 3-seed Francis Marion University (23-2) in the third place match. Should the Bobcats win, they will have earned a third place finish in the PBC tourney, with a lost they will place fourth.
