MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (10-1, 2-0 PBC) notched its 10th straight victory Saturday with a 12-point victory over conference foe UNC Pembroke (4-5, 0-3 PBC). The victory also marked the 600th in program history and the 250th for the Bobcat women in the Centennial Center.
Outscoring UNC Pembroke 20-9 after one quarter of play, Georgia College set the tone for the entire game early on both ends of the floor. The Bobcat women would go on to hold the opposition to just 26.4 percent (14-53) shooting from the field, while shooting 50 percent (25-50) themselves.
Three Bobcats scored in double-digits: Kadesha Gibbs (Claremont, North Carolina), LaRice Walker (Franklin) and Mckenna Rushton (Gainesville).
Gibbs, achieving her ninth game of the season in double-figures, led all scorers with 16 points. The forward was extremely efficient while on the floor, shooting 77.8 percent (7-9) from the field and snagging five rebounds in 32 minutes. Her senior classmate Rushton added in 11 points and six rebounds of her own. Junior guard Walker scored 14 points on 55.6 percent (5-9) shooting from the field. She added in three rebounds and two assists to the winning effort.
Georgia College controlled the area around the basket, outscoring UNC Pembroke 24-14 on points in the paint. The Bobcats controlled the game from start to finish, reaching a lead as big as 20 points.
With the victory, the team moves to 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play. They will look to take their 11th straight as they move into the new year and continue PBC action hosting the University of North Georgia Saturday, Jan. 2 in the Centennial Center.
