MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 13 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (2-3, 1-1 PBC) hosted Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent University of Montevallo (4-1, 0-1 PBC) Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. The Bobcat women picked up their first conference win of the season, dismantling the Falcons in a complete sweep, 9-0.
Georgia College got off to a fast start, winning all three doubles matches rather handily.
The first-slot singles pair of Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bordeaux, France) and Kristen Jones (Marietta) notched the first win of the day for the Bobcats, as they blazed through Montevallo's Alina Munteanu and Rayne Sinclair. Clausse-Pujo and Jones were out front the entire match and went on to secure the 8-3 victory.
Katie Krupp (Evans) and Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) finished right behind them in the second slot. The senior-sophomore duo performed well, defeating Allison Howell and Alice Copland by a score of 8-2. In the third slot, Macy Polk (Powder Springs) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee) increased the Georgia College lead to 3-0, following an 8-5 winning result against Emily Beatty and Julia Berg.
The Bobcat women carried their momentum right into singles play, sweeping all six contests.
Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs) dominated her opponent, Berg, defeating her in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1. The junior, playing fifth-slot singles, excelled and controlled the match throughout.
Fourth-slot singles player, Kelly, went on to conquer Howell, achieving victory in the first and second set, each by a score of 6-1. Kelly's result landed the Bobcats in the driver's seat, as it was the team-victory clenching fifth win. Sophomore Emma Niemi (Cumming) followed suit, claiming a victory of her own with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Lauren Pero in the sixth slot.
Jones and Macy Polk each picked up their second team point of the day. Jones outplayed Beatty in the second-slot 6-2, 6-2 and Macy Polk cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 finish over Sinclair in the third slot.
Clausse-Pujo, in the first slot, once again put together a high-caliber performance. In the final match of the day, she secured the Bobcat sweep with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over Munteanu.
The Georgia College women return to the courts tomorrow, Feb. 21, as they host PBC-foe Clayton State University at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
