MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 21 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (10-4, 5-2 PBC) picked up wins over Young Harris College (6-3, 2-3 PBC) and Clark Atlanta University (6-8) Saturday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. The Bobcats started with an 8-1 win over the Mountain Lions and topped the Panthers 9-0.
The match against YHC started with a sweep of doubles action.
Senior Katie Krupp (Evans) and sophomore Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) had the easiest time of the three tough matches, getting past Elin Rundcrantz and Maria Puerta 8-4 in the first slot. Junior Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee) and sophomore Emma Niemi (Cumming) picked up an 8-5 victory in the third spot over Carolina Hernandez and Kadie Hudgins. Senior Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and junior Macy Polk (Powder Springs) finished the sweep with a hard-fought 9-7 win over Oriana Labaqui and Laura Sanchez.
Macy Polk started singles play with a pair of 6-1 sets over Labaqui in the second slot, then Clausse-Pujo added the team-victory clinching point, getting past Rundcrantz 6-2, 6-3 in first singles.
Kelly's 7-6, 6-1 victory came next in third singles, beating Hernandez. Junior Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs) followed with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 victory in the fourth slot.
The Mountain Lions got their first team point in fifth singles, as Puerta beat Niemi 6-0, 6-4. The match finished in the sixth slot, where Krupp topped Diana DiMarco in a pair of 6-2 sets.
In the second match of the day, the Bobcats started with an early 2-0 advantage, as the Panthers were playing one slot short. Krupp and Kelly got things rolling with a shutout in the first slot, blanking Tori Pradier and Avern Gumbs. Next came an 8-3 victory for Macy Polk and Clausse-Pujo in second doubles over DiAndrea Galloway and Vonnick Boyogueno.
The Bobcats surrendered just 11 points in singles play. Serdinia provided the team victory with her shutout of Khadija Elder in the fifth slot. Kelly then topped Galloway in second singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Clausse-Pujo beat Pradier in a pair of 6-2 sets in the first slot. Cristalei Polk followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Boyogueno. Niemi closed the day in the fourth spot, a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Gumbs.
The victory runs GC Women's Tennis' win streak to six straight. The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, March 17 at 2 p.m., playing host to No. 24 University of Indianapolis.
