PENSECOLA, Fla. – The No. 21 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (13-5) saw its win streak extend to nine before coming to a close in a doubleheader split Wednesday, as the Bobcats beat Arkansas Tech (5-8) 7-2 before falling to No. 6 University of West Florida (12-2) 5-1.
The opening match of the day started with a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Senior Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and junior Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Georgia) took a second doubles win over Laura Sanchez and Camila Roca, 8-4. The third doubles pairing of junior Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Georgia) and sophomore Emma Niemi (Cumming, Georgia) added an 8-6 win over Annabel Rowlands and Teresa Sanchez.
The lone doubles loss for Georgia College came in the first slot, as senior Katie Krupp (Evans, Georgia) and sophomore Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville, Georgia) were edged 8-5 by Macarena Sedano Acosta and Tamara Bell.
As has been the case for the past few matches, junior Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Georgia) brought in the first singles finish in the fourth slot, making short work of Rowlands 6-2, 6-1. Next came a Bobcat loss in second singles, as Macy Polk fell short to Bell in a pair of 6-2 sets.
Kelly put the team up 4-2 with a win in the third slot, beating Sanchez 6-4, 6-2. Niemi came next to clinch the team victory, taking a three-setter from Haeleigh Long, coming back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to take the final two 7-5, 6-3.
The team victory already decided, Bobcats swept the final two matches, as Krupp took down Roca 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 and Clausse-Pujo got a win in the first slot 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 over Sedano Acosta.
Match two started with a 2-1 advantage for the Argos.
Serdinia and Niemi provided the lone team point for the match by outlasting Kat Dikosavljevic and Lisa May in the third slot 9-7.
The first and second battles were both 8-5 losses for the Bobcats, as Krupp and Kelly dropped a match with Hannah Toro and Valeria Mantilla, while Clausse-Pujo and Macy Polk were beat by Nina Bubelova and Paula Lopez.
The Argos got the three singles results they needed from the first, fifth and sixth slots. Clausse-Pujo couldn't upset No. 32 Dikosavljevic in a 6-3, 6-1 bout. Krupp lost to Sarai Flores in fifth singles 6-0, 6-1, while Niemi dropped a pair of 6-2 sets in the sixth slot to Heather Mixon.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 25 at 2 p.m., taking on Concordia University in Pensecola.
