MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 21 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (8-4, 4-2 PBC) posted its second-straight shutout Wednesday, this time blanking the University of North Georgia (7-3, 2-3 PBC) 9-0 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcat women jumped on the Nighthawks early, notching wins in three tight doubles matchups.
First doubles had the easiest time, as senior Katie Krupp (Evans) and sophomore Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) had an 8-3 win over Karina Gurgenyan and Sandra Ungricht. Kelly and Krupp improve to 7-3 on the season.
In third doubles, junior Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee) and sophomore Emma Niemi (Cumming) teamed for an 8-6 victory over Mathilde Baartvedt and Simone Krog. Niemi and Serdinia move to 2-1 on the season.
Finishing the sweep with a tight 9-8 victory in the second slot was senior Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and junior Macy Polk (Powder Springs). The Bobcat duo's record moves to a perfect 4-0 by topping Kathrin Waidner and Emma Etelalahti.
Singles action seemed to move a little smoother, surrendering just 19 total points over the six matches.
Kelly moved the lead to 4-0 with a shutout win in the third slot over Ungricht. Clausse-Pujo provided the team-victory clinching point with two 6-2 sets in the first slot over Waidner.
Playing in the fourth spot, Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs) dealt a pair of 6-1 sets out in victory over Baartvedt, then sister Macy Polk topped Gurgenyan 6-2, 6-4 in second singles.
Niemi won at sixth singles over Etelalahti, 6-2, 6-1. Niemi shares the team's best record with Kelly now at 9-2. Rounding out the day was Krupp in the fifth spot, topping Lexa Rae Loden by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
The Bobcats have now rattled off victories in four straight, and in seven of their last eight. The only loss during that stretch came to Defending National Champion Armstrong State University.
