FLORENCE, S.C. – The seventh-seeded No. 31 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (11-10) dropped its Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Quarterfinal contest to second-seeded No. 4 Armstrong State University (21-3) Friday, 5-0 at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
The Bobcat women stayed tough in doubles action. However, they dropped all three contests by close margins.
In the first doubles slot, Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville, Georgia) and Emma Niemi (Cumming, Georgia) lost by an 8-3 margin to Lena Lutzeier and Diana Stomlega. The All-PBC Second Team doubles pair of Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Georgia) and Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Georgia) was bested by Lenka Styblova and Tatjana Stoll in an 8-4 match.
The final doubles slot featured a tight contest between the pair of Kristen Jones (Marietta, Georgia) and Camille Negrini (Milan, Italy) versus Alice Patch and Tamri Chalaganidze. Although the match was close, the Pirate teammates edged out the Bobcats, 8-5.
In singles play, the final results needed to secure the Pirate win came in the first and second slots.
Polk was topped in the first slot by No. 5 Lutzeier 6-2, 6-0 and Kelly rounded out the day for the contest, also falling in straight sets to No. 17 Stoll, 6-0, 6-0 in the second.
The Bobcat women will return to action tomorrow April 22, as they take on sixth-seeded No. 38 Young Harris College in the PBC Tournament Backdraw. First serve is set to begin at 9 a.m.
