AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (5-19, 2-14 PBC) had trouble finding the mark in a 60-49 loss Saturday at Georgia Southwestern State University (7-15, 3-13 PBC).
The Bobcats shot just 24 percent from the field, their poorest shooting effort of the season.
Despite the shooting woes, the Bobcats put three scorers in double figures, led by 12 points each from junior Christen Copeland (Gainesville) and freshman Jaycie Bowen (Homer). Copeland went 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, proving her career-best dozen points off the bench. Bowen notched her first career double-double, pulling in 10 rebounds as well.
Sophomore Harper Vick (Marietta) scored 11 points, adding five rebounds as well.
GSW never trailed in the contest, hitting a three on their second possession to jump in front. The strong first quarter got the Hurricanes started with an 18-8 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
The loss puts GC at 2-14 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, 12th in the league standings with just five games left in the regular season. The Bobcats are four games back from the eighth and final playoff spot, with four games left to go in the season.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m., playing host to Francis Marion University for Faculty Appreciation Day at the Centennial Center.
