GC Women's Tennis Falls to Top-10 Squad, 7-0

PEACH BELT STANDINGS

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (0-6, 0-2 PBC) had a tall order Wednesday in No. 10 University of North Georgia (8-0, 2-0 PBC), losing the upset bid 7-0 at the Centennial Center Courts.

UNG won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 3. Tyla Carter (Johannesburg, South Africa) and junior Emily Pope (Canton) were shut out by Rafaella Villanueva and Anna Markvartova in the third slot. In first doubles, sophomores Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) lost to Vaishali Jorge and Annie Adams 6-2.

Singles play started with a second-slot finish, Fleming falling to No. 49 Jorge 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Irina Berklich (Sandy Springs) then lost in third singles to Markvartova in a pair of 6-1 sets. The Nighthawks clinched the team victory with a win in first singles, junior Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) falling to Adrienne Bofinger 6-2, 6-3.

In fourth singles, Bowie lost to Adams in a 6-4, 0-6, 10-3 marathon. Carter then dropped a shutout bout to Claudelle LaBonte-Frey in fifth singles, and Pope closed the day with a 6-1, 6-0 loss in the sixth slot to Laura Van Der Hage.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m., playing host to Lenoir-Rhyne University.
