KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team took on the first of two Division I exhibitions Wednesday, battling one of the nation's historic programs in the University of Tennessee. The Bobcats had an amazing experience at Thompson-Boling Arena, but lost the game 108-44.
As expected the Lady Vols, ranked No. 15 in the nation in the preseason, controlled from start to finish. The Bobcats managed double-digit points in each of the second and third quarters, losing the second frame 22-13 and the third 28-16.
Leading the Bobcats in scoring was freshman guard Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) putting in 13 points on 6-of-11 from the field. 2021 All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selection Harper Vick (Marietta, Georgia) added 10 points, with freshmen Savannah Casey (Canton) and Cierra Foster (Canton) each scoring six.
Undersized, the Bobcats faced a starting lineup with just one player under six-foot tall. The Lady Vols nearly doubled up the Bobcats on the boards 64-33.
The experience was amazing, beginning a stretch of two Division I matchups, as Georgia College travels to head coach Ross Jolly's alma mater in Chattanooga Friday, Nov. 5. Today's matchup had a special connection, as Coach Jolly's sister Kellie Harper is the Tennessee head coach.
