ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (3-4, 0-1 PBC) took on its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season Saturday and they were every bit as advertised as No. 9 Flagler College (7-3, 2-0 PBC) shut out the Bobcats 7-0.
GC was one player short, making the upset bid a bit more unlikely. The Saints got a shutout in the first slot, as Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee, Georgia) lost to Eden Schlagenhauf and Luisa Hrda.
A new second-doubles pairing of Jordan Bowie (Macon, Georgia) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming, Georgia) battled to a 6-2 loss to Alessandra Traub and Florencia Massardo Brain.
After a default win in the sixth slot for Flagler, the rest of the matches went to the Saints. In first singles, Richter lost to national No. 14 Schlagenhauf 6-0, 6-1. The second singles slot brought a bit tougher matchup as Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) pushed Hrda to 6-3, 6-3 scores.
Third singles featured another tough one, as Fleming lost to Amelie Vossgaetter 6-2, 6-4. The fourth slot was a 6-1, 6-2 loss for Bowie to national No 28 Anika Nissen, and fifth singles saw Morrison drop a 6-0, 6-1 match to Massardo Brain.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m., hosting Valdosta State University for non-conference play.
