MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (7-6, 4-3 PBC) won its third straight matchup Wednesday, taking down Augusta University (6-7, 3-5 PBC) 7-0 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
With the Jaguars playing short two players, the Bobcats only needed one victory to get the doubles point.
The first doubles result went to Augusta, as Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) fell to Teresa Franco Dias and Maria Alice Viera 6-3.
First doubles clinched the team point with a 6-4 victory, as Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) beat Edith Rueda Croda and Clara Basunana deMig. The Bobcat first doubles pair improved to 9-4 this season.
After default wins in the fifth and sixth slots, GC led 3-0. Clinching the team victory was Richter in second singles, a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Franco Dias. Richter is now 6-7 in singles this season.
Next came fifth singles, a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory for Bowie over Viera. Fleming followed suit with a 7-6, 6-2 win in the third slot, beating Basunana deMig. First singles finished the day, as Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) came from behind to upend Rueda Croda 5-7, 6-4, 10-3. Bowie improves to 7-6, while both Fleming and Yatribi are 8-5.
The win puts the GC Women at 4-3 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, good for fourth in the league standings. The top four schools qualify for the PBC Tournament, beginning April 28.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 16 at 2 p.m., hosting Francis Marion University.
