COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 4-seed Georgia College Women's Tennis team (8-7) wrapped up the 2021 season with a 4-0 loss at No. 1-seed Columbus State University (14-3) in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Semifinals Wednesday.
The Bobcats played with just five players, taking default losses at third doubles and sixth singles.
With CSU needing to take one of the two doubles results to clinch the team point, the Bobcats made it tough by taking the first finish, a win at second doubles. There, sophomore Jordan Bowie (Macon) and freshman Ashton Morrison (Cumming) beat Valentina Abrile and S. Ramirez Goncalves 6-4. With the victory, Morrison and Bowie finish the season 4-4, including wins in their last two.
The Cougars took the win in first doubles to clinch the team point. Junior Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and sophomore Emma Fleming (Suwanee) teamed for a tough 7-5 loss to the nation's No. 8 pair in Beatriz Lopez and Candice Paya.
After taking a 2-0 lead with the default in sixth singles, the Cougars won third singles to get started. In the third line, Fleming fell to Luise Sachs 6-2, 6-3. Fourth singles closed the day, as Abrile got her revenge on Bowie in 7-5 and 6-0 scores.
