MACON, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (4-1) fell for the first time this season, dropping a 6-1 decision at Division I Mercer University (5-4) Wednesday.
Freshman Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) picked up the one team point with a win in the sixth slot. Chhabra posted a convincing 6-4, 7-6 victory over Kristin Yordanova, moving to 3-0 this season.
Doubles play brought a Mercer sweep for the team point. On the first line, Emma Fleming (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) lost to Mary Courville and Naya Tillitt. Second doubles was a tight 7-6 loss for Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) to Lekha Varudandi and Yordanova. Third doubles was a 6-4 loss for Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) to Lauren Rich and Francesca Franchi.
In first singles, Shing lost to Courville 7-6, 6-1. Second singles saw Richter come up short against Tillitt, 7-6, 6-2. On the third line, Santoro dropped a 6-0, 6-4 match with Rich.
Fourth singles was a 7-6, 6-4 loss for Fleming to Franchi. Fifth singles featured Bowie dropping 6-1, 7-5 sets to Bowie.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m., playing host to Texas A&M Kingsville.
