AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (11-3, 1-1 PBC) picked up their first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win in convincing fashion, shutting out Georgia Southwestern State University (0-6, 0-2 PBC) on the road Friday.
The Bobcats got the doubles point with a sweep, as the Hurricanes only had five players, so could not field a third doubles squad. Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) teamed for a 6-3 victory in the first slot, beating Camille Dufays and Hannah Hogg.
Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) paired for a 6-3 win at second doubles as well, getting past Nina Thomet and Maya Boynton. Bowie and Morrison improve to 5-3, while the Bobcat first doubles pairing is now 11-3 this year.
Moving to 2-0 after a walkover at sixth singles, Bowie got the singles results started with a shutout of Megan Strickland in the fifth slot. Fleming clinched the team victory with her singles win over Thomet, 6-1, 6-0 on the third line.
Next came a win for national No. 46 Richter in second singles over Hogg, 6-2, 6-0. Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) then beat Boynton 6-2, 6-3. National No. 69 Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) closed the day with a pair of 6-4 sets against Dufays.
Fleming is now a team-best 11-1, including seven straight wins. Chhabra is now in double-digit wins at 10-2. Richter is 9-3, Bowie 7-3 and Shing 7-5.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 26 at 1 p.m., traveling to No. 8 Columbus State University.
