MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (12-4) beat Savannah State University (13-6) 7-0 Saturday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility, the ninth shutout for the Bobcats this season.
The Bobcats swept doubles play to start 1-0. In the first slot, Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) teamed for a 6-1 win over Amarlia Benn and Gabrielle Benn. Richter and Fleming move to 12-4 this season.
The second slot was a 6-2 victory for Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) over Julia Ramos and Venus Ubiebi. Morrison and Santoro are now 4-3 this season.
Third doubles was a first-time teaming of Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Savoie Srodulski (McDonough) against Caitlyn Schultz and Sunzahra Banks. The Bobcat duo came out with a 6-1 victory.
The Bobcats then ran the table in singles action. The first point came from the fourth line, as Morrison beat Ubiebi 6-0, 6-1. In third singles, Santoro followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 victory of her own against Amarlia Benn. Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) then beat Schultz 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the team win. Morrison is now 7-1 this season, and Santoro improves to 8-6. Chhabra owns an 11-3 mark.
Srodulski then beat Banks in sixth singles, moving to 2-0 on the year. Srodulski dropped the first set 6-2, then responded with a 6-0 and 10-2 finish. Next came Shing on the top line, beating Gabrielle Benn 6-3, 6-2. Fleming closed the day with a 6-1, 7-6[5] win over Ramos. Shing moves to 8-6 this spring, while Fleming owns a team-best 12-2 record.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 8 at 2 p.m., playing host to Young Harris College for Senior Day.
