MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 64 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (13-4, 2-2 PBC) recorded their second-straight shutout Friday, topping Young Harris College (5-12, 0-4 PBC) 7-0 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats took the doubles point with wins in the first and second slots. Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) teamed for a 6-1 win in the first slot over Zoe Freke and Meghna Mallath. Jordan Bowie (Macon) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) followed suit with a 6-1 win of their own in second doubles, beating Bailee Wilson and Louise Ratiu.
GC ran the table in singles play. Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) beat Joselyne Chapui with a pair of 6-2 sets in the first slot. In second doubles, Richter took down Mallath 6-1, 6-1. Third singles was a shutout win for Fleming over Freke.
Fourth singles saw Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) beat Wilson 6-3, 6-0. Fifth singles was the toughest fight of the day. Morrison took the first set 7-5, then dropped the second to Yureni Gomez 6-3. Morrison then closed it out 10-3 in the tiebreak. Bowie also won in sixth singles, beating C. Marko Ferreira 6-3, 6-0.
The win puts GC at 2-2 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, tied for fourth with a 3-3 Augusta University team. There are three conference matches left on the schedule, with the top six teams qualifying for the PBC Tournament April 29.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m., traveling to Valdosta to take on No. 15 University of Tampa.
