MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University women's basketball head coach
Ross Jolly has revealed the 2023-24 season slate including 29 contests.
The Bobcats will kick start their season at the beginning of November with an exhibition contest with Division I Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Nov. 2. GCSU will play seven other contests through November with the first regular-season contests coming in a tournament at Young Harris College. The Bobcats will play the host team Nov. 10 and Emmanuel (Ga.) University Nov. 11.
The women's basketball team will only play three contests in December. A notable contest for the squad will be against the University of Tampa Dec. 7 inside the Centennial Center. The Spartans finished No. 4 in the final poll for the 2022-23 season and concluded their season in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament. They also concluded last season as the No. 2 scoring offense in the country.
After coming back from winter break, GCSU will jump right into Peach Belt Conference play with nine conference contests through the month of January. Columbus State University is the first contest of the month coming Jan. 3. The Bobcats will then play the University of South Carolina-Aiken, which finished up their 2022-23 season in the regionals of NCAA Division II Tournament, Jan. 6. The University of North Georgia is the next contest coming Jan. 10. UNG also concluded its season in the regionals. The Bobcats will welcome the University of South Carolina-Beaufort to Milledgeville Jan. 17 for their first face-off for the Sand Sharks inaugural season.
The Bobcats continue conference play into February capping off the month with two solid teams. GCSU will take on Clayton State University, which finished last season in the regionals, Feb. 21. The following contest Feb. 24 will be against Georgia Southwestern State University, which won both the PBC regular season and the PBC tournament tiles last season. They also finished No. 14 in the final poll and concluded their season in the regional. GCSU will wrap up the regular season against Columbus State March 3.
The Peach Belt Tournament will be hosted by the No. 1 seed again this season. Quarterfinals will be played March 7 with the semifinals March 8 and the title game March 10.
The women's basketball team will return three of their top four offensive power houses from last season.
Alexa Geary was the team's leading scorer from last season 11.1 points per game.
Myra Strickland also makes her return this season in her second term with the Bobcats she was the team's third leading scorer averaging 9.6 points per game.
Ashyia Willis comes back for her third season as the team's fourth leading scorer with 9.2 points per game.
