MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 11 Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis (13-2, 2-1 PBC) continued its tear Friday afternoon, making short work of No. 42 Lander University (9-5, 2-2 PBC) in a shutout at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The doubles point went to GCSU with victories in the second and third slots. Lander picked up its lone win of the day in first doubles, as Sina Albersmeier and Mille Elsborg beat Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) 6-2.
Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) evened things up with a 6-2 win in the second slot over Emily Ineson and Maranda Adair. Young and Morrison are 9-5 as a pair this season.
Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) and Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) completed the doubles point win with a 6-4 victory over Fe Batoon and Hannah Panchal on the final line.
Santoro doubled the Bobcat advantage, improving to 15-0 this season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ineson in fourth singles. Next came Chhabra in the sixth slot, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Batoon, and improving to 12-3 this year. Shing clinched the team victory next, taking down Albersmeier in the first slot, 6-1, 6-4. Shing now owns a 12-3 singles record.
Fleming then beat Adair 7-6, 6-2 in the third slot, followed by a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 battle for Morrison in a win over Panchal at fifth singles. Young closed the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Elsborg in the second slot.
Fleming is 12-2 this year, second-best win percentage on the team to Santoro. Morrison is now at 10 victories this season with a 10-5 mark, and Young improves to 9-5 on the year.
The Bobcats have seven shutouts this season, and are now 8-0 at home.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m., traveling to NAIA powerhouse Brenau University.
