YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Taking on their second ranked opponent of the young season, the Georgia College & State University Baseball team (3-11, 2-3 PBC) lost both ends of a doubleheader at No. 25 Young Harris College (13-5, 6-2 PBC) 14-5 and 6-2.
Game one was decided by a big 10-run third inning for YHC. The Mountain Lions had six hits and took advantage of three Bobcat errors in the frame.
The Bobcats out-hit YHC for the game 13-10. Designated hitter Matthew Cassandra (Cumming) was 3-for-5 with three singles. First baseman Mason Spivey (Appling) had a 2-for-3 effort with a run and RBI.
Evan Cowan (Richmond Hill), Matthew Chester (Evans) and Ben Tuten (Bristol) each had two hits, while shortstop Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) swatted a first-inning home run to right, his first this season and sixth in his career.
The loss went to Davis Swenson (Toccoa). The righty starter (0-3) couldn't make it out of that big third inning.
In game two, Young Harris took a 4-0 lead after the second and hung on for the remainder of the game.
Tuten went 3-for-4 with a run and a double, tallying half of the six Bobcat hits.
Righty starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) took the loss (1-1). He allowed just two earned runs over six innings, fanning a career-best 11.
The Bobcats and Mountain Lions finish the three-game series tomorrow, March 5 at 1 p.m.
