GCSU Women's Tennis Blanks Converse, 7-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis (8-1) extended its win streak to four with a shutout win over Converse University (2-6) Saturday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Bobcats took the doubles point with wins in the second and third slots. Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) and Ashton Morrison (Cumming) got the first result with a shutout in the second slot over Marleen Prinz and Lais Martins. Next, the Valkyries got their only victory of the day, taking the win at first doubles as Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) lost to Tonya Glogowski-Watson and Khushi Kharb.

The doubles point went to the Bobcats after Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) beat Natalie White and Sofia Giaraldo-Jimenez 6-4 in the third slot. The third doubles pairing owns GCSU's best record at 8-1.

The Bobcats then ran the table in singles. Fleming got it started with a 6-3, 6-0 win on the third line over Giaraldo-Jimenez. The Bobcat senior owns a 7-1 singles record. Young followed with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Kharb in second singles. Shing then clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 7-6[1] win on the top line over Glogowski-Watson. Young is now 5-3, while Shing is 7-2 this season.

Next came a shutout victory for Santoro over Luiza Estrada in fourth singles. Santoro stayed unblemished on the season and is now 9-0 in singles. Fifth singles saw Morrison beat Martins 6-2, 6-3, and Chhabra closed the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win in sixth singles over Laurel Maynor. Morrison improved to 5-4, and Chhabra is now 7-2.

The Bobcats host Catawba College tomorrow, March 5 at noon.
