#14 Bobcat Women's Tennis Strongarms Young Harris, 5-0

PBC STANDINGS

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 14 Georgia College & State University Women's Tennis team (17-2, 4-1 PBC) took its fifth-straight win Saturday, beating Young Harris College (9-11, 1-4 PBC) 5-0 on the road.

The Bobcats got the sweep started with wins at all three doubles spots. On the top line, senior Emma Fleming (Suwanee) and sophomore Chiara Santoro (Santa Ursula, Spain) shut out Simone Mercier and Meghna Mallath. Santoro and Fleming are now 12-7 this year.

On the second line, junior Ashton Morrison (Cumming) and sophomore Jada Young (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) beat Joselyne Chapui and Louise Ratiu 6-3. The Bobcat second duo is now 13-5 this season.

At third doubles, sophomores Sofia Shing (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shradha Chhabra (New Delhi, India) improved their record to a team-best 17-2 by beating Emily Bush and Catarina Marcko Ferreira 6-1.

Shing closed her singles match first with a shutout in the first flight over Chapui. Fleming followed with a third line victory over Mercier 6-1, 6-3.

Clinching the team victory, Santoro beat Mallath Santoro with a pair of 6-2 sets in the fourth slot. Wrapping up at the same time was Morrison, beating Ratiu 6-2, 6-3 in fifth singles.

Santoro stays perfect on the season, now at 19-0. Fleming is 15-2, Shing 16-3 and Morrison owns a 14-5 record.

The win puts the Bobcats at 4-1 in PBC play this season, good for third in the league standings with two matches left to go.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, April 16 at 2 p.m., hosting No. 12 University of North Georgia.
