Bobcats tame Panthers 78-64 in Education Day matinee

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Jada Warren collected 22 rebounds and Ashyia Willis led three Georgia College & State University women's basketball players in double figures with 16 points as the Bobcats defeated LaGrange College 78-64 in a non-conference game Wednesday (Dec. 18) morning on Education Day inside the Centennial Center.

GCSU welcomed nearly 3,000 elementary and middle school children from Baldwin and Putnam counties to the annual Education Day contest.

The Bobcats bounced back after a two-game skid, climbing to a 7-3 record, while the Panthers fell to 6-3. GCSU will complete its three-game homestand against Limestone University Saturday (Dec.. 21) at 1 p.m.

The first quarter started slow for both teams, with both teams tying things up with less than four minutes on the clock; however, Willis had other ideas before the end of the quarter, scoring three field goals in the final minutes, helping the Bobcats to a six-point lead (21-15).

The score stayed close throughout the second quarter, with the Bobcats holding on to a slim five-point lead (37-32) as the halftime whistle was blown.

The Bobcats continued their steady lead over the Panthers in the third quarter; however, Georgia College begin the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run, propelling GCSU to a 20-point lead (68-48) - its largest of the night - on a Miracle Parker three-pointer with 5:45 remaining.

Willis, who went 7-of-11 from the floor, led the Bobcats with 16 points, while Cail added 13 of her own. Cail totaled four assists and two steals on the night, while Warren's 22 rebounds (seven offensive and 15 defensive) fell just one short of tying her personal best, which she set earlier in the year with 23 against North Greenville University. Parker, who sank three three-pointers, finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Camryn James also pulled down six rebounds.
