MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University recorded a pair of 11-0 results as the Bobcats swept a baseball doubleheader from Tuskegee University Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats, which outscored the Golden Tigers 26-1 in the three-game series, improved to 3-0, while Tuskegee fell to 0-3. GCSU returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 6) when they host the University of West Georgia in a 4 p.m. home contest.
In the opener, four Georgia College pitchers limited the Golden Tigers to just four hits and only allowed two runners to reach second base the entire game.
John Luke Glanton (1-0) went 5.2 innings, surrendering just three hits and striking out four to earn the win.
The Bobcats scored three runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings and pushed across two runs in the second.
Braeden Smith had a two-run single and
Matthew Mebane added an RBI double in the first, while
Brandon Bellflower, who had three doubles in the sweep, tallied a run-scoring double and
Cam McNearney added a sacrifice fly in the second. Smith and
Gabriel Wuerth had RBI singles before
Hank Noonan drove in a run on double in the fourth. Bellflower tallied another RBI double and Mebane closed out the scoring with a two-run single in the fifth.
Smith led the way for the Bobcats with three hits, while Bellflower and Mebane each collected two. Smith and Mebane each drove in three runs.
It was more of the same in the nightcap as the Bobcats belted out 11 hits, including five going for extra bases. Bellflower started the scoring in the second on a ground out and McNearney added a two-run single. Mebane recorded the first home run - a 410-foot solo shot to left-center field in the third - of the season for GCSU that gave Georgia College a 4-0 lead.
Matthew Cassandra added a two-run double in the fifth before GCSU broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning.
Evan Cowan had an RBI single before Bellflower drove in two more with a double. Mebane closed out the scoring with an RBI double in the frame.
Bellflower, McNearney, and Mebane each collected two hits, while Bellflower drove in three runs.

Aidan McConnell (1-0) scattered four hits and struck out five over five innings to earn the win.
