MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball picked up a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader split with the University of South Carolina-Aiken. The first game was a 4-0 win for GCSU with USCA taking game two 11-2 in five innings.
Georgia College now sits at 16-13 overall and 2-6 in the conference. USC Aiken is now 18-8 on the season and 4-4 in the PBC. The two squads will wrap up the series at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 15.
Game one of day was a pitchers' duel with the Bobcats taking the 4-0 win.
Emily Hobbs drove in the first run of the ball game on her seventh round trip shot of the season with a home run over the left field fence in the third inning.
Divina Checo tacked on an insurance run with a moon shot of her own over the center field fence making it 2-0 in the fourth. The Bobcats plated their final two runs of the ball game with the first coming on a single up the middle from
Eliza Kuhne. Hobbs picked up another RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Hobbs had a perfect 3-for-3 outing with a home run, a double and a single to drive in two RBI and a run scored.
Mackenzie Martin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Checo had the other home run on her 1-for-3 game one with two runs scored.
Jana Shellhorse had a superb contest getting the start and the win in the circle. Shellhorse threw a complete seven inning shutout, her first of the season, with eight strikeouts.
Game two was heavy in the favor of the Pacers with the 11-2 win. Georgia College scored first on a
Kam Caldwell single up the middle. USCA tied the game at one each in the third inning. USC Aiken would then plate three runs to make it 3-1. Martin put a dent in the lead on a triple in the bottom of the third inning, 3-2. The Pacers would then plate eight runs in the fifth inning to take the 11-2 win.
Caldwell led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance with an RBI. Martin also had a perfect game going 2-for-2 with a triple to drive a run in and come around to score.
Shelby Jones got the start in the circle pitching 4.1 innings with five of the six runs scored being earned. She also fanned three batters.
Kaitlyn Anders was the first reliever with four runs scoring on four hits.
Kelsey Parlor was the final pitcher of the contest throwing two thirds innings with a lone run scoring.
