AUGUSTA, Ga. | Augusta University used a strong second half to pull away from Georgia College & State University for a 63-33 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory Wednesday (Jan. 29) evening inside the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Bobcats fell to 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the PBC, while the Jaguars climbed to 11-5 and 4-3. GCSU looks to bounce back when they take on the University of South Carolina-Aiken, which are winless in the conference, Saturday (Feb. 1) at 1:30 p.m. inside the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats would need to play catch-up with the Jaguars to open the contest, even with Augusta missing six consecutive shots to begin its nights. Deshona Gaither would help to clean up the damage in the first, collecting two layups and helping GCSU exit the first 10 minutes with a minimal four-point deficit. Chandler Davis would open the second quarter with a layup in the paint, but that be one of the last times the Bobcats would score in half, giving up a 9-2 run to the Jaguars, until two late free throws by Miracle Parker would send the game to half for GCSU with a seven-point deficit (21-14).
Jada Warren scored the opening layup for the Bobcats in the second half before the Jaguars put together a 20-3 run to end a potential GCSU comeback. The final score was the largest lead for Augusta.
Parker and Gaither would take home the honors for most points with six apiece. Gaither and Warren each collected eight rebounds. GCSU struggled shooting from the floor, only hitting 22.6 percent (12-of-53) of its shots. It was the worst shooting night of the season for the Bobcats.
