C.J. Jones has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week ending Dec. 14.
Jones, a sophomore from Suwanee, Georgia, helped the Bobcats to a 2-0 week as they remained undefeated in PBC play. Jones, who was also named the Zaxbys Player of the Week for GCSU, averaged 29.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Bobcats last week. Jones shot 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the floor, including 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from the three-point line, and was nearly perfect from the free throw line, sinking 11-of-12 tries.Â
He scored 17 points in a 95-83 win over Middle Georgia State University on 6-of-11 shooting, while adding eight assists, five rebounds and two steals against the Knights. He followed that up with a career-high 42 points in a 99-91 overtime win at Augusta University. Jones was 14-of-21 from the floor and added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jones was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line, including four in the final 17 seconds of overtime to seal the victory. It snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Jaguars.Â
The 42 points was the second most by a GCSU men's basketball player in program history as well as the ninth most in PBC history. The 42 points by Jones is also the third most scored by a Division II men's basketball player this season.
GCSUÂ (6-2 overall, 3-0 Peach Belt) returns to action Wednesday (Dec. 17) when they welcome to the University of South Carolina - Beaufort to the Centennial Center for a 10 a.m. PBC contest for an Education Day game presented by Sonic.
